When selling a book on eBay it seems that the book title is one of the first things you include on the title of the particular sale as a keywords. However it depends-what is the person searching for? For instance I recently had a book to sell called “Laurence and the Arabs” by Robert Graves. People would not have heard of the title “Laurence and the Arabs”, people would search for “Laurence of Arabia” or “T. E. Laurence” instead. So a particular name would take precedence over the actual title.
Another search pattern may be a particular theme or place-after all the searcher doesn’t necessarily know the name of a particular book-especially if it’s not a bestseller, but they may have some idea of what they are searching for-Christmas for instance. If a book is about Christmas but the word does not feature in the title, it may be better to have the title to say “Christmas book” and then the author. Of course there would be no point in replacing the title with ‘keywords’ that people would never search for-such as “Noel” or “Yule” in this case.
The whole point is to try and anticipate what the customer wants. Of course it’s usually bestsellers but the older the book the more unlikely it is to be a bestseller. Giving a date of publication may be one solution, but of course it’s not always possible. Maybe its just best to admit that some books would not sell on Ebay for their true value-it’s just the way things go.
