Deadliest eBay Sin #4 – Wasting Keyword Real Estate

I have a question for you… let us say that you invested quality time researching the marketplace and you found a market that was wildly profitable without any competition at all. And the chances of you making millions of dollars was a no-brainer (I mean a hot market like selling heaters to Eskimos and you were the only one in the world who would be selling them).

And let us further say that you invested quality time and your hard earned money creating profitable product partnerships with great companies to supply you with those heaters to sell and now you have everything set and ready to go.

Here is my question… would you build your “heater business” way out in the wilderness where nobody could find you or would even know that you existed? Chances are – probably not. I mean that would be totally insane to do something that ridiculous after you have invested all of your quality time and hard-earned money right? I mean who in their right business mind would ever build a business that nobody could find or even knew existed??

As silly as that question was to ask you and as crazy as it may of sounded, that is exactly what sellers do when they commit sin #4 which is… sellers kill traffic by wasting keyword real estate!

In other words, sellers have never taken the time to research their market first to find out what the exact keywords or keyword phrases are that their market is pre-dominantly using when searching for their products. Instead, sellers waste most of their valuable keyword real estate space in their title box by using minor keywords or worse, just words instead of using the actual major keywords that their market is searching with.

And the reason most sellers waste their keyword real estate space is simply because they do not understand or even know that the title box is the gate that actually opens them up to the enormous floods of traffic on eBay or that there are laws that govern this box and rules that guide it.

And because of this unawareness, they wind up building their business out in the wilderness where nobody can find them by doing the unthinkable in their title box like…

Leaving It Blank
Leaving Unused Character Spaces
Using Abbreviations
Using Symbols
Using Slang Words
Using Just “Words”
Using Minor Keywords
Trying To “Sell” Them
Trying To “Entice” Them
Guessing
Or worse (and yes, this is the worst of all)…

… they copy other sellers who sell the same product by using their titles, sub-titles, keywords, categories and so on because they think they are successful and must know what they are doing.

But what most sellers do not know is that when it comes to traffic – everybody on eBay is just coping and doing what everybody else is doing.

Listen closely to this…

“Less than 2% of all eBay sellers understand how to master traffic… much less dominate it”! And the other 98% are like a circus ring of cats all connected by mouth and tail playing follow-the-leader.

In other words, when they got there they seen everybody else doing it so they just jumped in and did it too simply because it seemed like the normal thing to do because everybody else was doing it when they got there (whew, that was a mouth full).

The truth is, 98% of sellers do not understand that the title box is the gate that opens them up to enormous floods of traffic and the sub-title box is the detour sign that causes that flood of traffic to click-thru to their auction pages.

And because of this lack of understanding – they settle for a flock of traffic rather than a stampeding herd. And it is unfortunate too because when you dominate the traffic….YOU OWN THE INDUSTRY! Period!! Let me say that another way to really drive my point home.

You can be the only “seller” in the world…
Who has the very best product on the planet…
Wrapped around a perfect emotional triggering look and feel…
Along with a laser-beam-guided strategic layout…
Displaying the right influencing professionalism…
Using the highest converting sales copy…
Backed by an unprecedented guarantee…
And topped off with superb world class customer service

… But if you do not have traffic – you are hosed!

Here is the bottom line. Traffic is the heart of any business and your job here is to make sure that everybody in the world can find your business easily. And you do this by researching your market first to find out what major keywords they are using to find your products. And then you use those keywords.

Golden Nuggets:

The “title box” is the gate that opens you up to the enormous floods of traffic on eBay. Do not write in this box to sell… write to be found!

The “sub title box” is the detour sign that causes herds of passing by traffic to slow down and notice you. Do not write features to turn them away… write benefits to turn them in!
