One of the ways I teach people how to make money online is with article marketing. Writing the article itself is quick and pretty simple to do…but your article will be just a bunch of words sitting on your hard drive if you don’t submit it to directories. I don’t care how good a writer you are, you aren’t going to make any money if you don’t put the article out there and get it working for you!
To make an article ready to submit to a directory is pretty easy really…but if you don’t know what is entailed it can be a stumbling block.
Because there are literally hundreds of article directories out there, some of this information will be generalized. Obviously I can’t speak for every single directory out there in this one article-but this is a good rule of thumb to follow. When you decide on a directory (or directories) that you want to submit to, read their terms of service or guidelines so you know you have their specific requirements met.
The article, or the body
Articles are generally 400-600 words long. If you go over the 600 word threshold you may find that your article is rejected. If you write much less than 400 words you just aren’t providing much content. So aim for 500 words…that’s a good figure to shoot for. You cannot possibly solve all the world’s problems in one article…give good information and leave the reader wanting more!
The title
Your title should follow formal titling guidelines… capitalize the main words, leave words like “the”, “a”, “of” lower case. I like to write my title after I have written the article…it is usually pretty obvious after the body is written.
Keywords
Keywords let people in the directory find articles that are relevant to their niche. Use appropriate keywords in the article itself and in the title. Also have a list of keywords that you submit along with the article.
Summary
Give a couple sentences that summarize the content of the article. Be sure that your main keyword is included in the summary. You don’t have to write a lot of new content here…basically cut and paste from your article. Frequently the first paragraph or first few sentences will work as a great summary.
Author’s resource box
Of course you want your name, but more than that you will have a link back to a website, squeeze page for something that you are promoting…either a product or service. It isn’t that you are pitching them in the resource box…but you are letting them know that by clicking this link they will get even MORE information on x/y/z topic-how to make money online or whatever it was you were discussing.
I speed up the process by having text pad pre-formatted with the 5 areas:
- Title
- Article
- Keywords
- Summary
- Resource box
Then I just type in the new content-that way I make sure that I have all the components ready for submission.
If you follow these guidelines you will be able to get your articles submitted in no time. By simplifying the submittal process you can focus on other aspects of how to make money online knowing that your article marketing is working for you!
