In a recent survey on the overall importance of a variety of business services, respondents were in overwhelming agreement that IT services are most crucial to the success of a company’s daily operations. With nearly two-thirds or 64 percent of the vote, information technology was by far considered the most essential business service. Accounting services placed a distant second at 14 percent.
The survey, administered via telephone to more than 250 businesses over April and May 2009 and sponsored by PC Solutions, provides a clear indication of IT solutions as the most critical component of any successful business, and suggests companies should take a closer look at the quality of their current IT services. They may need to make some important changes to keep such an integral business component up and running smoothly.
Here are five critical IT questions to ensure successful daily operations:
1. How complicated is the day-to-day management of your technology infrastructure?
Security, data recovery, data storage, communication and collaboration are just some of the technology issues that need to be managed each day to ensure your business runs smoothly. Are all of these issues being addressed by your current IT provider?
2. Does lagging network response result in significant employee downtime?
Slow networks often halt employee productivity thanks to regular downtime and the resulting loss of focus. Watch your network closely, how efficient is it? Is your business benefiting from continuous network flow or is your staff suffering from consistent sluggishness?
3. When do you communicate with your IT provider?
Business operating hours vary globally, but unfortunately, many IT services providers are only available during the standard 9 – 5 workday. How does this mesh with your daily business operations? Will you need regular access to IT professionals outside of standard workday hours?
4. Whom will you call in an emergency?
When it comes to information technology even the most successfully managed system can hit a snag. Do you have a designated contact for emergency situations? How will your IT provider respond and will they be in a position to act before any significant damage is done?
5. Why isn’t someone else worrying about these issues?
With information technology services such an important component of your business operations, shouldn’t you delegate its’ care to a trusted name in IT solutions? Running a business is complex enough, let someone else be in control. You’ll be glad you did.
