Using a VOIP Phone System in a Residential Network

VOIP, short for voice over Internet Protocol, is, perhaps, most often associated with business uses where multiple phone lines are needed for simultaneous calling. Many companies employ its uses to expand their phone capabilities and communicate more frequently with a larger number of customers. It’s also a great way to handle a multitude of phone lines all in one organization, It, can, however, be used in residential networks and is becoming a more popular option everyday.

Making calls via the Internet has become almost standard in some situations. Now more and more Internet subscribers are choosing not to pay the costs of making long distance calls, even with the competitive rates currently being offered by most phone companies. Even those who use their cellular phones as a main means of telephone communication are now turning to alternative methods to save minutes and cut down on the wear and tear caused from extensive cell phone use. That is where VOIP phone systems can help.

Imagine being able to call anywhere in your country of residence without it costing an arm and a leg. What about those international calls you’d like to make but can’t because the fees are too high? When you use a VOIP phone system for calling others via the Internet, you will not only save money, but will also be able to contact anyone, anywhere and not have to worry about how long you’ve talked or cut the conversation short because of time and money.

Here’s how it works. You subscribe to an Internet access service and through a VOIP phone system, will be able to make and receive telephone calls just as you would on a traditional phone. The beauty of it is you will actually be using a phone. These services work over broadband and are easy to acquire.

Full service VOIP phone companies provide both in-bound and out-bound calling with direct in-bound dialing. Many offer unlimited calling to and within the U.S. and some even to Canada or to selected countries in Europe and Asia. All of these services are offered at a flat monthly fee, which will easily translate in a lower cost for you, the subscriber because you won’t have to worry about how much each call costs or how much you will pay to merely connect to the call.

If you are someone who calls people outside your calling area on a regular basis, you may want to consider this type of telephone system for your home. Once you have purchased the equipment and subscribed to the service, your costs will be minimal compared to what they would be if you used the more traditional methods of reaching your family, friends or even potential customers. This is especially important if you operate all or part of your business from home. When you take advantage of Internet calling via a VOIP phone system, you won’t have to quickly summarize what you have to say in order to hang up faster or leave out important information because you are worried about what it’s all costing you.

There are many options available today that help cut down on cost. VOIP phone systems are just one of those options. Before you decide to use one, consider your phone usage as well as the monthly costs you already incur. You may find it’s worth the switch.
