Buying Business Telephone Systems – 8 Questions You Should Ask Yourself Before Buying
As a business manager planning to purchase a new phone system, you can be more prepared to choose the system that will best match up with your company’s telecom needs if you know in advance some of the more important telecom factors related to buying these systems.
Here are eight questions you should ask yourself. Your answers will serve as an indication to you as to how prepared you are.
In addition to answering “yes” or “no” to each question you should also ask yourself:
a) Is this factor likely to have a significant impact on my phone system cost and operation?
b) If I need to better informed on this issue, do I have the necessary resources for impartial and dependable information?
1. Choosing Your Service Provider – Have I compared telephone service rates, customer satisfaction, spare parts inventories, and service experience of my prospective vendor with other telephone service providers before I choose?
2. System Technology – Do I have unfiltered information about whether-or how-the new VoIP technology can be used in my company’s telephone system call handling and how much it would cost for me to use it? Does my information tell me about IP phone systems I can purchase at digital prices
3. System Features & Capabilities – Have I been given objective and complete information about:
a) Telephone system features and capabilities which are available in current system technology and which should be included in my new system
b) Telephone system features that are standard, and those that cost extra, and
c) Which of the features I need will be available in the system I prefer?
4. Best System Pricing – Do I know telephone equipment suppliers and where to purchase my preferred system to get the best prices available?
5. Vendor Quotes and Proposals – Do I have an information resource, other than filtered vendor sales information, that I can rely on to help me evaluate prospective systems, prices, capabilities, and limitations?
6. Sales/Service contract – Will my sales-service agreement with my new vendor be created by me to protect my interests, or will it be created by my vendor to protect his interests?
7. System Installation Plan – Has my prospective vendor created a written plan for installation of my system? Have I seen and approved it? Does it include my input?
8. System Expansion – Has my preferred vendor discussed expansion limitations and costs of the system I would purchase from him?
Your proceeding into a telephone system acquisition project without answers to these questions virtually insures that you will not be getting the best system at the best price possible. If you don’t have answers you will be well advised to find articles, advice, or impartial advisors who do.
